A Little Bit About Me

Hi! I’m Julia Jones, a Certified Family Dog Mediator and an Internationally Accredited Dog Trainer through the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants (IAABC).

As the owner of Guiding Tails, my mission is to promote positive, force-free training methods that help dogs and their families build strong, lasting bonds based on trust, communication, and mutual respect.

Becoming an accredited trainer through this respected organization required years of hands-on experience, extensive coursework, and a comprehensive exam. It’s been a meaningful step in my journey as a trainer and allows me to better support the dogs and families I work with.

I’ve had the privilege of working with a wide variety of dogs and families, from fun obedience and puppy socialization to more serious behavior challenges. I also foster for a local shelter in Tacoma, Washington, gaining invaluable experience with dogs of all breeds, ages, and backgrounds.

As a Family Dog Mediator, I act as a bridge between dogs and their people—helping both sides understand one another more deeply. My goal is to support dogs as they navigate the complexities of our human world and to guide families in raising confident, well-adjusted companions.

Tailored Solutions

I use positive reinforcement to address behavior challenges and build a strong, lasting bond with your dog. While I once relied on aversive tools, I’ve seen how they harm trust and connection. I don’t judge those who use them, but I won’t allow intimidation or outdated "alpha theory" methods with my dogs or clients.

My goal is for your dog to choose you willingly and for your communication to be open, positive, and ongoing.
